Beethoven Encounter

He often goes out alone, mostly towards the outskirts.

23 January 2026 | Johannes Frauenschuh (Wien) an Frank Wallburger (Reiseleiter)

Dear Frank,

I am only getting in touch now because it was important to me not to interpret the past few days prematurely. Beethoven is calm, reserved, and withdrawn here. He often goes out alone, mostly towards the outskirts, and often returns in silence. I have the impression that these walks are more necessary to him than any conversation.

In the apartment, he behaves inconspicuously. He gratefully accepts the silence without speaking about it. He is visibly uninterested in my work, which neither surprises nor offends me. He barely looks. It seems more important to him to be unbothered than to be understood.

I let him be. I ask few questions. If anything changes or he expresses a desire for exchange, I will let you know immediately. For the moment, this withdrawal seems to do him good.

Kind regards

Johannes
